A Snow Pumpkin and A New Love

we gave new life to our center piece pumpkins from Thanks Giving. They have been painted by girls and then given pretty faces by each girl. We had great fun with this and I believe we'll do this each year. It was so fun. we happened to have pipe cleaners hanging around from the kids previous crafty adventures which mad great arms.
I have a new love.... KNITTING
And it probably looks a little sloppy, but I'm determined to get the hang of it. I'm hoping to get by the library to see if they have a couple of books the Creative mom suggested. I'm going to knit what you see below until it's long enough to call it a scarf and then wrap it around my littlest one.

I've Been Busy

A Wedding Gift
A Card for another friends wedding

CMP ATC for November
And lots of loving on the babies. I've even started to knit... well if you can call my little tangle of yarn that. But I'll get there. I'll post soon to prove it. These were created during my Thanksgiving holiday. It was nice just being at home with my girls not trekking downtown to the office. But back in the saddle am I. And off for another course building stretch..................

a turkey, a gift and a nap

Well, Thanksgiving was perfect. There was some minor family drama... but I'm not going to dwell on it. As a great singer once said"Don't Worry, Be Happy!" But I did miss those who decided to go another way for the holiday.

So about that bird. What an awesome meal we had. My aunt spent the night and cooked the bird. She also makes a killer stuffing and sweet potato casserole. I made my grandmothers special Sawdust Salad Recipe(Jello, pineapple, marshmallows, homemade custard with pineapple juice cooked in and topped with a fluffy layer of whip cream mixed with cream cheese. Yummmmmmm! There was so much good food, I'm resembling a tick today! Time for my Tony Little Gazelle. After all the guest left and I watched a little of the Ghost Hunters Marathon it was time to paint. You see Tomorrow I'm going to a friends wedding. They love to cook age old family recipes of great Italian Food. So above is what I came up with. I hope they like it.

I so wanted to go shopping today. Micheal's was going to have some great Black Friday coupons sales and other door busters. But the Sergent said no :( I know Dave Ramsey would agree.

Did I say I'm about to settle in for a long winters nap. Just me a my sweet girls and the Sergent. Enjoying the extra family time this 4 day weekend is treating us with.

God Bless You everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving

a Mud Mask, a Paint Brush and a hug

So Sunday night Roxy and I put on her favorite mud mask and settled in for a fun night of painting in our pj's. The bottom paining is how the ornaments looks to me and the top is how they look through Roxy's eyes. That's exactly what I love about art, it's really about

showing the world how you see things.

An ATC, a Taco Pillow and a Christmas painting

Here's what I did for the October ATC card for the Creative Mom ATC Exchange. See more of my ATCs and odds and ends at http://www.flickr.com/photos/43967826@N00/
The Theme was Tell Me A Story. What immediately popped in my head when Amy mentioned the theme was The Wolf from Red riding hood reading about a past adventure with some local pigs!
Over the weekend my 7 year old created her first pillow. She's thrilled and now wants to try knitting. She's a girl after my own heart. Her pillow looks just like a taco... I think I'm going to sew some fun things on top to bring it to it's full taco-ability.
We also made a quick trip to emergency care for my little one's ears. Turns out a she had two ear infections... one of which was pretty bad. She's starting to feel better now.
Last night as the weekend came to a close Roxy and I sat in the living room and painted on canvas board. We both did the Christmas balls. I'll post tomorrow.

Fiber art

This is a piece I haven't worked on in a year :(
I don't know if it's the fact that it's fall or what but I have a huge urge to get crafty in the fiber way. I have my new sketch book.... but I keep looking at my sewing machine longingly. I think I'm going to give in and take her for a spin this weekend. Maybe dolls made from outgrown clothing of my girls.
Material Mama has really been in the back of my mind kindling the fiber fire.

a tear, a transmission and a tree

Well.... what a day I had yesterday. It started with me saying "Sweetie, what do you think that little buzz I hear in the car is?" I smiled ans spattered"I wouldn't want to break down."

Well wouldn't you know about twenty miles from home Push as I might... she was not accelerating. And so I came to a slow stop in a church parking lot. Understand I'm not ungrateful. Quite the opposite. I mean I drive through some very rough areas, and to end up broke down in a church parking lot is fine by me. Eventually hubby got there, restarted it and on a wing a a prayer, and a very slow journey we got it to the dealership. Have I mentioned we paid this baby off a month ago! Yes, that's right a month ago.

So, it's the transmission. I'm in nifty little rental Impala with leather seats and silver rims. Quite a different world than the mini van. And was I stressed about the car? Heck I could care less. I was to busy flipping out over the fact that of all mornings I was suppose to be designing a holiday card for the CEO of all of Worka-Cola! Oh my goodness was I flipping out about that. but in the end with laptop Finlay in hand, I did get that out the door. It was just from a door in the burbs instead of midtown.

So after the dust settled we put up the Christmas tree. At least that settled the little remaining woes of the day. Who can't get peaceful when looking at the beautiful twinkle of an evergreen flocked with red balls and gold angels.

Here's to a better weekend than the week was!

Old Haunts and Birthday thoughts

I painted this water color when I was pregnant with my oldest. My hubby had this Barber Shop for quite a few years. Before his career change. A career change that brought about a much more fulfilling life for him.
So... 32.... Oh dear. Should I start going backwards now? I think I would feel better about this number if I'd had my roots colored before the big B-day. Oh well. Here's to the next thirty two years!

Happy Late Halloween

Hi all. i hope we all had a happy and safe holiday. We spent a fun night at our church. The festival they put on is wonderful and is a great resource for the church to reach out to the community.
well my Halloween started by placing my October CMP ATC in the mail. I need to snag the image from my camera and post it. Latter. And then...
I took the day off and had a great time at both of my girls schools, with an hour of helping the church setup in the middle of the day.
My oldest daughters teacher had me carve the class pumpkin. I also read a couple of stories the teacher selected. And we ended the night with a nice melt down compliments of too much sugar, up too late, and interruption to routine. Oh well. Still it was a fun day.

Eek! My sketch book is full

Well, I guess it's time to hit hobby lobby for another sketch book... aka my window to the world.

I've been Pumpkin Junkin

What do you think? And most of all do you get it? I took my inspiration from the local history. The trees are made from garbage ties, the ground and hill plant seeds, the antebellum skirt from a bad mitten birdy, bottle nipple and doll head and so on. Here's wishin for an original Holli Conger piece.

A soda bottle saved my life! Well, kind of

Picture it...
It was 1996, my first cell phone(borrowed from hunky boyfriend). I not realizing the thing had a battery, a fully charged battery, kept it plugged into my '89 mustang. Yes, the model that a carpeted console! And well as I drove down the main strip of town noticed the smell of something burning.

"Holly Crap!", I looked down and sew the cigarette lighter it was plugged into smoking and little embers on the carpet that surrounded the ashtray. I swerved into the parking lot of our local movie store. Ran in, grabbed a soda out of the cooler by the check out counter and yelled
"I'll pay you in a SEC... I've got to put a fire!"

The employees gathered around the window and looked on as I poured soda all over the inside of my car.

I calmly walked back in. Wrote a check for a $.75 drink and walked out. That night I didn't get much sleep, peering out the window at a car I kept expecting to burst into flames. The next day it actually was still smouldering.
The boyfriend was totaly sweet about the whole thing so............ I married him!

What animal do

Last night my 4 year old asked me " Mommy what animal do brownies come from?"
I explained where each item that goes into making a brownie came from. It was a fun learning moment.

always last minute and a shrunken head!

So as always I'm running about 10 steps behind where I should be. I created this little watercolor last night as an answer to a bingo basket I was suppose to contribute to for my oldest class. The theme was Candy. As always at the last moment I grabbed the watercolors and snatched frame off a shelf... and walla!

Now this is the start of my apple doll. About two weeks ago I carved an apple into a face. Hung it over my stove to dry out after soaking it in salt and lemon water. Now that it's dried and shrunk quite a bit it's looking pretty decent. I hope it's not about to mold on that dark ear. I really should have dried it in the sun. Next step... the body and clothing.

The Pumpkin Patch

picture from clipart.com
We spent a fun evening at the local pumpkin patch. The night was filled with hay rides, pumpkins, a petting zoo, and a fun house. Oh and the best part to my kids was taking mommy into the maze... and then running off and leaving her!
And we're doing a yard sale this weekend to clear out some junk. Yes, to make way for getting more junk.

My weekend to do list:

My Secret Garden

I have a favorite Secret Garden. It's lovely... the flowers are always in the most perfect stage of bloom, there's a huge variety of plants to photograph and the lighting is always perfect.

Where am I?

Yes, at least up to this point no one has said anything to me about taking pictures in their nursery. And the plants are always in great shape. Hey, it's even climate controlled for the photographer. FYI, I haven't checked with any official Walmart staff on the approval to do so. But wow, these flowers work great in my fairy portraits! http://www.fairyme.com/

a pumpkin and a punch

So our annual Halloween Party at our neighbors was last night. It was filled with lots of fun treats and a few tears at the end from a couple of tired party goers(mine).

What do you do when one of the party goers and their siblings spend their time at the party hitting, kicking, and calling others stupid head? Well, ignore it I thought. But I'm not perfect. So.... at the very end one of "those siblings" punched my daughter in the side. Now I normally consider myself pretty good at self control. But at that moment I guess the mama bear came out. When I was told what happened by my daughter and the a witness said yes, she looked right at her and socked her. I Yelled " Why did you punch her?" She said I didn't. So then I looked at the party hostess and said who does she belong to? The little girl responded "my mommy". We laughed. But inside there was a tinge of she is a child... with a heart.... But still this can't go unacknowledged by her parents at least. So I told my daughter to tell her father. When she approached the girls father to tell him... he walked away not listening to my daughter at all and pulled his daughter aside. The rest of the time we were there it was unfriendly looks from the father and mother of "the siblings".

So the question: What should I have done? Was it wrong to tell my daughter to turn in the little mike Tyson in training?

Kidney Fairies

My cousin is in the business of saving lives. She makes things happen in the transplant area of our local children's hospital. I'm very proud of what she does. So, she asked for a couple of www.fairyme.com fairies for an upcoming presentation on transplants... kidney transplants to be exact. This is where I'm at so far on this project.

When I Grow Up

"I hope when I grow up I'm not a man"... my four year old daughter said as she lay in bed last night. We of course assured her that this was one thing we could assure her she need not fret over.
The same night at dinner my six year old announced that she wanted an indoor pet.... a Venus fly trap! Are my girls great or what. They keep life interesting for sure.

My Hubby and Me

We joked when we were dating that he robbed the cradle and I robbed the grave! My hubby is a hoot.
And he's sweet enough to not say anything when he sees a new ding on my car these days.... or he's just used to it. Who knew that curb was there anyway!!

Me at 5

In response to my buddy Sunnynole at http://halfwaytherepodcast.mypodcast.com/, a picture of me at the age of five. 1980 to be exact. Check out that hair. It was so long it actually almost pulled it strait. Maybe I should try that again. Anyway. There it is Sunnynole.
If anyone has advice, we're intending on setting up a website and having the Turkish Cook Book be a download purchase. Any tips on that setup is welcome from my readers.

A Turkish Cook Book

My mother-in-law and I are in the process of creating a Turkish Cook Book. It will feature food that her family has been making for generations. This is just a teaser of what will be in it. Yummy......

an old toy

We spent a night drawing. Thinking of Amy's drawings of lego figures, I picked up a toy from way back and started painting.

the view on my way in has changed

This is a lovely pond that I pass most mornings. There are still bits of the old south that have not been overdeveloped. There will be a Home Depot there next week knowing our community. Anyway, couldn't you just picture some prehistoric something grazing in that fog?

Holly Hobby and a little dust

This past weekend we picked up some of my childhood toys from my mother's house. My girls were thrilled with the Strawberry Shortcake dolls, Cabbage Patch Dolls, and well, a lot of other junk. What a trip down memory lane. Too bad they can't listen to the 45 record books from Disney. I'm going to find a picture of me in 1985 to share with my cmp buddies, most of all to share with sunnynole after seeing hers. I wonder what Amy looked like in 1985? Creativemom, if you're reading, care to share?

a baby and a purse from scrap jeans

We created an oh so cool purse for my six year old. It's too cute. I'll post so. And I got to see my beautiful new niece. Perfection!!! Here's to a long awaited fall. Bring on the beautiful leaves and temps that drop below 80 at least a few times.

Milktoast Intolerant

My six year old announced this morning that her friend at school was not milktoast intolerant after all! How fun to see the world and our language through her eyes.

Fall visits our home and inspires a sketch

Excited about the change in season I quickly decked the house in a bouquet of autumn colors. My girls can feel the tingle of the coming festivities, and have started to plan in their minds what we will do at the local pumpkin patch. #1 on their list... the hay ride, #2 hot chocolate. Hopefully it will actually be cool outside on that day.
The freshly decorated fireplace inspired a sketch last night.

Grandma's chair, a tearful send off, and a weekend at the library

We spent the night at Grandma's during the summer. While we were there I sketched my favorite chair in the world. It's very oversized and comfy. I want to curl up in it now!
The little one was soooo sad to se me go this morning. She stood at my car and cried Mommy. It's Daddy's day to take her to preschool. I'm getting soggy eyed thinking of it.
The girls are thrilled at the idea of a Saturday morning at the library. Books to read... books to read... as a littl one I hear every week says.

an urge to sketch

I have a huge urge to sketch and absolutely no time to do it. It reminds me of one of the first creativemom podcasts I listened to when Amy started getting up at the crack of dawn to get creative time in. The only problem... I'm already on the highway commuting at that time. What to do. Wish Upon a star for a work from home offer from The Man? Oh well.

a new baby

We have a new baby that joined our family Sunday night. Around 24 hours after her baby shower. That must have been some good dip we were serving! And the cutest thing... my little niece's initials spell out m.o.o.!
We love you little moo! Welcome to the family

a night in the car

On a 103 degree night you do what you have to when the power goes out. Including sleeping in the car! And when the power is back on the next day you cherrish that little marvel, the AC.
What a night Thursday night was.
