Tis a Tree Y'all

What do y'all think of my country Christmas Tree? Notice the subtle little coke bottle cap, a tribute to my workplace. That's a mason jar it's sittin in, as my momma would say.
Ignore the big watermark when giving me your opinion. Just a precaution, as I plan to make prints and sale them on Etsy or Ebay.

Pastels and Pumpkins

I finished this fun little watercolor and ink on my lunch break. I think I'll call her Mable.


And this fun little study of a pear was done a few months ago as I worked with one of my art students. This type of exercise is great for getting the creativity flowing. It was created using pastels.

Canned Art

I've been doing some canning... with watercolors!

The Brain

I made a Mellon into a brain for a Halloween party! It was a blast.

A purse to rival Vera

Well ok, it's no Vera Bradley. but it's home made and has a fun twist I painted on the inside.
If you want to create something like this yourself just by a wooden purse at Micheal's and get out your craft paint.
That and I'm so swamped that I don't have any new stuff to post at the moment. But soon. I'm painting this weekend. Yippy. I have so many ideas I'm going to pop.

Sitter Part II

Now you paint the figure using the folk art line from plaid. They have a great assortment of colors and as you see here they layer really well.
Make sure not to clog those holes for the stringing process.
Back soon with the final details... as soon as I string mine. Maybe tomorrow.

Pumpkin Sitter

I have fallen in love with those sweet little sitters that you can find in all the mail order gift catalogs and gift shops. But I honestly can't see paying for them with so many other items in our need to buy queue.
But with a little air dry clay, acrylic craft paint( such as Plaid craft paint), and some embroidery thread we can cook up a cute little primitive sitter.
Above is the clay after my initial sculpting? Don't let the word sculpt scare you. We all did it with Play-doh! It's the same thing. Slightly messier though. Don't forget to think of where you would string his legs and arms. You'll want to go ahead and poke those holes in his legs and arms and so on.

Let him dry for a day and then I'll be back with further directions.

Pass the Chicken Plate

I really wanted a nice Rooster plate, something like Kari and Kijsa
would create. So I got out my handy acrylic paint, a plate and started painting. Of course Kari and Kijsa's plate's are using the correct type of paint for glassware and all that. But my serves the "look purpose" and I'm not going to feed anyone on it. So I'm happy.
This is the window seat bench my mother and I built along with the bookcases I had so long wished for. Yippy.

And some antique spice cans from my grandmothers kitchen. I bet the lord is loving her chocolate meringue pie. I miss you mom.

A Tea Tray

If you've seen the wooden ready to paint trays in the Wal-Mart craft area and thought... that's cool but what to paint on it?
Well I've found it's the perfect surface to decoupage holiday themed napkins or wrapping paper to.
So here are the steps:

1. pick your main holiday wrapping paper and a complimentary wrapping paper
2. paint the inside all sides with a color that matches or compliments the paper.
3. after this dries apply the main paper to the surface of the tray that would hold drinks.
4. apply the complimentary paper to the outside walls of the tray.
5. I applied a cut out coffee cup out of the outside complimentary paper as an additional accent.
6. Wallah! You will want to seal the tray. I do so with an additional coat of decoupage, but you may have a preferred sealant. Always use a plate when placing cookies or food on this type of tray that has had paint, etc. applied to it.

A Windowseat and Dry Brush

I've been busy teaching art classes and putting together bookcases. They are still empty at the moment. But when I get it all dolled up I'll post pictures. My mother and I built the bench to go between them to give the built in window seat look.
Did I mention she dropped a board on my foot. I guess I deserve it because I was just laughing about the board I almost got her with... and then bonk! my foot got the board.

This is one of my favorite paintings from my old sketch book. I know yall have seen this before but I've been so busy that my brushes have been dry for a while. There's something great about art journaling your everyday life. And it's a great piece to hand down to loved ones.
Oh accept the new pumpkin that I've been working on. When I get his legs on I'll post.

Disney Blues

Do you ever wish you were in a giant spinning tea cup?

or about to take flight on an elephant?
Well our house is suffering from the Missing Disney Blues.

The only thing a girl can do is... create some art!

If only the employee food court at Coca-Cola had Mickey shaped sandwiches... oh well.

Candy Corn and Cookies

The Candy Corn was even easier than the pumpkin. I wanted it to be a little heavier to lend it to being used as a bookend.
Candy Corn:
1. knead clay into a workable state.
2. shape into a triangle.
3. Let air dry for until thoroughly dry.
4. Paint with Plaid Acrylic paints.
5. Enjoy!

Look at my youngest taping up some of our homemade holiday decor.
Did I mention when I went back by that same door she had taped a construction paper pumpkin up..... with about 50 pieces of tape!
Anyone have a good tape removal method for getting it off when the time comes?
